In Search of Egypt's Lost Tombs: A Lecture by Egyptologist Kent Weeks

OLD LYME, CT - World-renowned Egyptologist Kent Weeks will speak about his remarkable career excavating and protecting ancient Egypt's monuments on May 1 at Lyme-Old Lyme High School. He will also discuss recent developments in Egypt's Valley of the Kings, where scans of King Tutankhamun's tomb have spawned speculation that another major find may be announced in the near future.

The lecture, presented by the Friends of Luxor Library and the Lyme-Old Lyme High School Luxor Library Student Ambassadors, will take place at 3 p.m. in the high school auditorium, 69 Lyme Street, Old Lyme, CT. The event is free and open to the public.

During his talk, Dr. Weeks will discuss what it was like when he and his team unearthed KV5, the tomb of the sons of Ramses II, generally considered the most significant find in the Valley of the Kings since King Tut’s tomb was discovered in 1922. Read Secrets of the Lost Tomb, from Time Magazine.

He will talk about his mammoth effort to map the location of all the tombs, temples, and archaeological sites on the Theban West Bank through his Theban Mapping Project and about the library he founded so local children could learn about the importance of protecting their country's heritage. For more visit the Theban Mapping Project Library's Facebook page.

In February, Dr. Weeks was featured as the cover story in INK magazine. Read Living in the Past: Egyptologist Kent Weeks.

In January, Dr. Weeks spoke with students at The Country School in Madison, telling them how a teacher in his Seattle, WA, elementary school sparked his lifelong interest in ancient Egypt. Read about his visit, and why he thinks education is the key to preserving Egypt's heritage.

There is nothing I enjoy more than teaching Egyptology, making people aware of this magical civilization.
